Emily Geyman will earn a doctorate in geological and planetary science at the California Institute of Technology in July 2026. Her research combines field observations, remote sensing, and numerical models to measure how landscapes change over time and specifically how they store and release carbon over timescales of years to millions of years. At Stanford, she will work on developing machine learning approaches such as physics-informed neural networks to better understand how landscapes respond to climate change and shape Earth’s climate through carbon-cycle feedbacks.
